Name: Ylang Ylang Essential Oil 2nd Grade

Botanical Name: Cananga odorata (Lam.) Hook.f. & Thomson

Family: Annonaceae

Plant Part Used: flowers

Extraction Method: Steam & water distillation (up to 6 fractions are removed, whereby each grade or fraction is removed at different times eg. ylang ylang 1st during the 3rd hour; ylang ylang 2nd during the 4th-6th hour)

Perfumery Note: Middle

Aromatic Intensity: Strong

Aromatic Description: Sweet, exotic, floral, slightly fruit, 

Colour/Characteristics: Clear to pale yellow or yellowish oil with a slightly viscous consistency

Main Chemical Consistency: Linalool, benzyl acetate, geranyl acetate, p-cresyl, methyl ether

Blends Well With: Sweet orange, bergamot, rose, mandarin, geranium, clary sage, sandalwood palmarosa, lime, lavender, ginger

Properties/Uses: Anxiolytic, hypotensive, sedative, antidepressant, antiseptic, aphrodisiac, nervine, sedative, tonic, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic.  Ylang ylang essential oil may be used to help treat high blood pressure and palpitations especially if associated with shock, anxiety and anger, PMS, PMT, dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, oily skin, combinations skin, aging or stressed skin, helps to regulate & balance sebum production, hair care, treatment of split ends, softening and balancing moisture in the skin.

Energetics: Ylang ylang essential oil may help relieve irritability, frustration, moodiness, anger and emotional instability, depression, anxiety, feelings of despair and self-destructiveness and stress.  It may help to promote joy, peace, euphoria, as well as feelings of calm, reassurance, inner trust, self-confidence, creativity and harmony.  

Use: Diffuse, direct inhalation, oil vaporiser, oil burner, bath, skin care, massage, perfumery

Safety: Non-toxic, non-irritant, non-sensitising.  Excessive use may cause headaches or nausea.  Tisserand & Young state there is a moderate risk of skin sensitisation and caution should be exercised on people with hypersensitive, diseased or damaged skin and children under 2 years of age.  No contraindications known.  Has GRAS status.

Conservation Status: Listed as least concern on the IUCN red list
