Botanical Name: Backhousia citriodora

Family: Myrtaceae

Plant Part Used: Fresh green leaves and branchlets

Extraction Method: Steam distillation

Perfumery Note: Top to middle

Aromatic Intensity: Strong

Aromatic Description: Warm, fresh, rich, lemon-like, uplifting

Colour/Characteristics: Yellow to light amber with a thin to medium consistency

Main Chemical Constituents: 6-methyl-5-hepten-2-one, linalool, exo-isocitral, citronellal, cis-isocitral, trans-isocitral, neral, geranial

Properties/Uses: Anti-microbial, carminative, uplifting, antiseptic, bactericide, expectorant, fungicide, insecticide, anti-inflammatory.  Lemon myrtle essential oil may be used to treat bronchitis, flu's & to help fight infections.  May help support and strengthen the immune system.  May also be used to help treat athletes foot, indigestion, bloating and can assist with eliminating odours.

Energetics: Lemon myrtle essential oil's refreshing and uplifting aroma can help promote inspiration and mental clarity, therefore helping us with concentration & focus.   Lemon myrtle can also help with relaxing & calming the mind in times of stress.  

Use: Direct inhalation, diffuser, oil burner, perfumery, creams, salves.

Safety: Non-toxic, possible dermal irritant & dermal sensitiser. Not recommended for use in a bath due to being a possible dermal irritant. Avoid use in pregnancy and children under the age of 2. Caution when taking diabetes medication. Tisserand & Young recommend a dermal maximum of 0.7% in dermal preparations as well as avoiding use on hypersensitive, diseased or damaged skin.
