Properties: Catmint is considered to be a nervine, carminative, sedative, diaphoretic, antispasmodic and  digestive.  Catmint may be used to help with agitation, restlessness and symptoms associated with nervousness such as headaches and indigestion.  It can help calm and soothe, aid digestion and help with minor respiratory issues.  

Catnip is also commonly used to provide stimulation and entertainment for cats. The herb can be sprinkled on toys, scratching posts or rubbed on objects to attract cats and encourage playfulness.  Some cats may find catnip calming and use it as a stress reliever. The scent of catnip can help relax cats and alleviate anxiety in certain individuals.

In addition to its recreational use for cats, catnip has also been used for medicinal purposes in humans. It has been employed as a mild sedative, digestive aid and for relieving symptoms of colds and respiratory issues.
